The week of 2018 Malaysian General Election, we managed to score a cheap airasia flight to Langkawi on 29rm one way from Penang yay! Reached Langkawi at night and went straight to the Pekan Rabu jetty and took a 15 minute boat ride to Dayang Bunting Island or Pregnant Maiden Island. Since it’s already night time, there’s no more ferry available so our kind hosts picked us up and arranged their own fishing boat to be our transport. We were so grateful to them.
We’ve been to Langkawi last year Check our post about it here. and this was our second visit. We decided not to stay in the mainland of Langkawi. We just want to enjoy it without going to touristy places we’ve been before. I have no idea about Pregnant Maiden Island until I saw this listing in Airbnb. It promises a place that is close to nature. So I booked it and I didn’t know I am in to a wonderful surprise.
I realized that the place we are staying in is a part of a Geoforest Park and I couldn’t be happier!
There’s no malls, no fancy restaurants in here. Just houses of the families staying in this island. 50 families according to our Airbnb host. Not even a public transportation. So if they don’t send or pick us us we either walk or borrow our hosts motorcycle. There’s lots of trees, animals around dogs, roosters, ducks, crabs to name a few. The main source of income of people here are fishing and rubber tree plantation.
Above was the airbnb the house we stayed for 3 nights. We got it from Airbnb and it was amazing! We woke up to a beautiful sunrise every morning facing Tuba island. The property is just beside a mangrove forest. And so far they are the only operating chalet in the island. A hotel is under construction as I write this post.
You should definitely check out Barat Chalet in Langkawi while it’s still not a lot of tourists. They also provide free kayak boat. We kayak everyday and this was definitely the highlight of our trip! For just 85rm per day you’ll enjoy this place and the beautiful nature Langkawi has to offer. They also prepare local food (mostly sea food from their catch of the day) for my family for a very cheap cost.
There’s no swimming pool here so my 2.8 year old girl swam here with these boats.. she loved it though the water was a bit murky. This was in front of our cabin. I woke up at 5:30am every single day and waited for the sun to rise. And it is worth it!
took this before I hopped into my kayak boat and embrace this beauty.
Summer loves the pink boat so much!

Since it’s our first time in Pregnant Maiden Island, we went to see the famous Pregnant Maiden Lake. From Pekan Rabu Jetty you can take a tour package around 80rm per person. Usually this package is a half day trip package for those who want to do island hopping. You can also take this kind of packages from Cenang Beach.
Package includes (80rm per pax) round trip boat ride to:
- Pregnant Maiden Lake
- Beras Basah Island
- Eagle Watching
The way to our destinations were scenic. This is where you can appreciate and see the different islands of Langkawi. They said there are 99 island in Langkawi Archipelago.
We swam and had a great time in Beras Basah Island. Though this beach was a bit touristy, I love it very much because of the fine white sand and beautiful shells and corals we found. The water was so warm I felt like I’m in a jacuzzi.
DAYANG BUNTING MARBLE FOREST PARK
Your boat will wait for you and will give you about an hour to hike up to the lake and swim and do whatever you want.
It’s a great walk for nature lovers like me. You’ll walk to a forest with a lot of fire floura and fauna and also huge marble rocks.
This cheeky long-tailed macaque attacked me as they saw my McDonalds paper bag. My mistake I totally forgotten to not take that food with me. I ended giving all my food to them because of fear. Be careful.
managed to spot some pretty birds as I walk up to the lake.
me and summer had a great swim in this largest fresh water lake in Langkawi! Summer enjoyed jumping to the water with her vest..
This was arranged by our hosts. They just ask us to
on our last day we visited Tuba Island. Tuba Island is just a narrow bridge away from Dayang Bunting Island. See went to a secluded beach and had a great swim and trekked a bit.
found these pretty shells that is sitting in our living room right now.
I will surely come back to these island! I’m so in love❤️ till next time
